2Build a unit plan around a skill, not a sport

A sequence that builds one movement competency, with the sport as the vehicle.
Act as a physical education curriculum designer who builds around movement competencies rather than sports.

Keep the game small-sided as long as possible, and tell me where you deliberately delayed full-sided play.

3Plan for the space you actually have

Activities that fit a shared half gym or a blacktop in November.
I need activities that fit the space I actually have, not a full gym.

My space: [Ex. half a gym with a curtain divider and a music class on the other side, or an outdoor blacktop in November].

- The safety issue specific to this space, and how the activity avoids it.

Rules: nothing requiring more than [number] feet of clear floor, no activity where a stray ball leaves the space, and no standing-in-line games.

Mark the two that still work on a day when I get less space than I expected.

4Generate rainy day and indoor alternatives

Twenty no-equipment options for a cafeteria that are not a movie.
Build me a bank of 20 rainy day activities for [grade level] physical education.

Where they happen: [Ex. the cafeteria with tables folded, my classroom with desks in rows, a hallway].
Class size: [number]. Period: [number] minutes.
Equipment available: none, or only [list anything you can carry in].

Rules for every activity:
- No equipment beyond what I listed, and nothing that has to be purchased.
- Students stay in or beside a defined personal space. Assume I cannot let them run.
- Real physical activity or real movement learning. No movie, no free time, no worksheet.
- The rules must be explainable in under 60 seconds.

For each: the name, the setup, the rules as I would say them, what it practices, and how long it holds attention before it goes flat.

Vary the type across the bank: fitness, cooperative problem solving, rhythm and coordination, strategy without a ball, and a few that work seated. Mark the five that hold up with 40 students in a cafeteria.

5Write a substitute plan a non-PE sub can run

Setup, rules, and management simple enough for a sub with no PE background.
Write a substitute plan for one [number] minute period of [grade level] physical education. The sub has no PE background, has never met this class, and may not be comfortable in a gym.

Space: [Ex. full gym, half gym, outdoor field].
Class size: [number]. Equipment I will leave out: [list].
What the class has been doing: [current unit].

The plan must include:
1. The exact words the sub says to open class, including how attendance and roll spots work.
2. One activity, with setup a non-PE adult can do in three minutes and rules they can read aloud.
3. A second, calmer activity to switch to if the first one falls apart.
4. A management plan: what to do if students will not stop, if two students argue, or if the class refuses to participate. Leave who to call and where the phone is as blanks for me to fill in.
5. The end-of-class routine, including equipment back in.
6. A one-line note the sub leaves me about how it went.

Rules: no activity that needs officiating or judgment calls, and nothing with a ball above waist height. Keep the whole plan to one page a stranger can follow while standing up.

6Design activities that work with wildly uneven class sizes

One lesson that runs the same whether eighteen or forty-three show up.
I never know my class size until the bell rings. Give me one lesson that runs at any size.

Activity or unit: [Ex. volleyball serving and receiving].
Grade level: [grade]. Space: [describe]. Equipment count: [Ex. 6 nets, 20 balls].

Give me:
1. The core activity, with the same objective at every size.

5. What to do when the group numbers do not divide evenly, so the leftover students are not standing out.

Do not solve the large class by making students wait longer. Solve it with more small groups or a second task, and tell me which you chose.

7Build a warm-up and cool-down bank

Thirty openers and thirty closers tied to the day, so laps stop being the default.
Build me a bank of 30 warm-ups and 30 cool-downs for [grade level] physical education.

Units across my year: [list them].
Space: [describe]. Equipment: [list].
Time available: [number] minutes to open, [number] minutes to close.

Rules:
- Every warm-up connects to a specific unit and prepares the movement patterns that unit actually uses. Tag each one with its unit.
- Dynamic movement only in the warm-ups. No static stretching held at the start.
- No laps, and nothing that is only about compliance.
- Cool-downs bring heart rate down and include one reflection or check-for-understanding question tied to the day's activity.
- Each one runs without me demonstrating twice.

For each: the name, how it runs, the unit it fits, and one cue to call out while students do it.

General movement preparation only. Do not frame anything as injury prevention, rehabilitation, or conditioning for an individual, and if a warm-up would need a trainer's sign-off for a particular student, say so rather than adapting it yourself.

8Plan the fitness testing window

A schedule, station rotations, and a recording sheet that fit inside a few days.
Help me plan a fitness testing window that does not eat two weeks of instruction.

Tests I am required to give: [Ex. PACER, curl-up, push-up, sit and reach, shoulder stretch].
Classes: [number] classes of about [number] students, [number] minute periods.

5. What the students not testing at that moment are doing, which should be activity rather than sitting.
6. The two places this schedule usually breaks, and the fix for each.

Keep individual scores private: no calling numbers out, no posted results, no comparisons between students. Tell me how the recording sheet supports that.
INCLUSION AND MODIFICATION

9Modify any activity for a mobility difference

Versions where the modified role is real gameplay instead of scorekeeping.
I need to modify an activity so a student can participate fully. I am describing the activity and the type of participation needed, not the student, and I am giving you no medical information.

Activity: [describe how it normally runs, including space, equipment, and group size].
Grade level: [grade].
Type of participation needed: [Ex. a role that does not involve running or jumping, seated play at waist height, limited lateral movement, a slower pace with more rest].

Give me four modified versions of this activity. For each:
- What changes: rules, space, equipment, scoring, or the role itself.
- Why the modified role is genuinely part of the game, meaning teammates need that player to do their job in order to score.
- What the whole class does differently, so the change reads as the activity's design rather than one student's accommodation.

Rules:
- No version where the role is scorekeeper, timer, equipment manager, or referee. Those are side jobs, not participation.
- Do not tell me what a student can or cannot physically do, and give no exercise, injury, or return-to-play guidance. If a version would depend on that, say so and tell me to check with the athletic trainer or school nurse.

Mark the version that changes the game least for everyone else.

10Build the adapted PE lesson from your general plan

Three access levels for every activity in a unit, same objective throughout.
Act as an adapted physical education specialist helping me build access into a general lesson plan rather than writing a separate lesson.

Here is my unit plan: [paste it, activity by activity].
Grade level: [grade]. Space and equipment: [describe].
Types of participation I need to plan for: [Ex. seated play, low vision, limited endurance, sensitivity to noise and crowding, a student who needs a predictable routine]. These are types of access, not students, and they include no medical information.

For each activity in my plan, give me three levels:
- Level 1: the activity as written, with a small change that helps everyone.
- Level 2: modified equipment, space, pace, or rules.
- Level 3: a different task that meets the same objective.

For every level, state the objective it still meets, so I can show it is the same lesson.

Also give me:
1. The equipment I would need to buy, with cheap substitutes.
2. The two activities in this unit that are hardest to make accessible, and whether to modify or replace them.
3. One sentence per activity on what I say to the class, so the modification is offered as an option rather than an exception.

Give no medical or exercise advice. Anything about a specific student's body goes to the trainer, the nurse, or the IEP team, and say so wherever it comes up.

11Generate options for the student who dreads the gym

Entry points for the student who is anxious about being watched.
I have students who dread PE because they do not want to be watched. Help me build entry points for them.

Grade level: [grade]. Class size: [number]. Current unit: [unit].
Space: [describe]. What triggers it most in my class: [Ex. skill demonstrations in front of the group, changing clothes, being picked last, running where everyone can see].

Give me:
1. Ten changes to how the class runs that lower the exposure for everyone, not for one student. Ex. how groups form, where practice happens, whether anyone demonstrates in front of the room.
2. Five ways for a student to enter an activity partway in, without an announcement.
3. The three moments in a normal PE period that are worst for this, and a specific replacement for each.
4. What to say to a student who tells me they are not doing it today, in words that do not draw the room's attention, plus what to say the next day.
5. Two ways to know it is working, observable without asking the student.

Do not suggest rewards, points, or public recognition for participating, because those raise the stakes. Do not treat this as a discipline problem.

12Write inclusive team-selection procedures

Twenty ways to make teams without captains picking in front of everyone.
Give me 20 ways to form teams and groups in [grade level] physical education that are not captains picking.

Class size: [number]. Space: [describe]. Typical group size I need: [number].

For each method:
- How it works, in the words I would say to the class.
- How long it takes.
- What it produces: even skill, mixed skill, random, or by choice.
- Whether it hides who ended up where, or makes it visible.

Rules:
- No method where students are chosen in front of each other, and no method where anyone is left over.
- No method that sorts visibly by ability, size, or who plays a school sport.
- At least six must take under 30 seconds, because those are the ones I will use most.
- Include a few that reshuffle teams mid-activity, so a bad draw is not a whole period.
- Include two that work when the class size does not divide evenly.

Then tell me which three to use as defaults, so students stop wondering how teams will be made.

13Adapt for equipment you do not have

Substitutions built from what is actually in your closet.
I need to run an activity without the equipment it calls for.

Activity: [describe it, including the equipment it normally needs].
What I actually have: [inventory your closet, with counts, including anything odd].
Space: [describe]. Class size: [number]. Grade level: [grade].
Budget: [Ex. nothing, or 50 dollars].

Give me:
1. Three substitutions using only what I listed, with any rule changes each one forces.
2. What each substitution changes about how the activity plays, honestly, including what gets worse.
3. Two homemade or repurposed options, with what to use and how long they hold up.
4. Any substitution that would make the activity less safe. Say so plainly and tell me not to run it that way.
5. The one purchase under my budget that would fix this permanently, with roughly what it costs.

Do not suggest anything that needs a wall as a rebound surface unless I said I have one, and never substitute a heavier or harder object for a lighter or softer one.

14Plan for a returning athlete's restrictions

Questions for the trainer plus real roles a restricted student can hold.
A student is returning to activity with restrictions. I am not going to tell you the restriction or any medical detail, and I do not want you to tell me what the restriction should be, how to progress it, or when the student can return to full play. Those come from the athletic trainer, the school nurse, or the physician.

What I need instead:

Activity or unit: [describe how it normally runs].
Grade level: [grade]. Space and equipment: [describe].
What I have been told, in general terms only: [Ex. no contact, no running, cleared for light activity].

Give me:
1. The questions to bring to the athletic trainer or nurse, written so I can ask them in a two-minute hallway conversation. Include what is allowed, what to watch for, who to tell if something changes, and who signs off on any increase.
2. What I should ask to have in writing, and who provides it.
3. Real roles inside this activity for a student who cannot do part of it, where the role affects the outcome of the game rather than sitting beside it.
4. What to say to the class, and what to say to the student, so the role does not read as a demotion.
5. What I document after each class, and how briefly.

If answering any of the above would require medical judgment, say so and route it back to the trainer instead of answering it.
ASSESSMENT

15Build a skills rubric that observers can use quickly

Four rows in plain language you can score in ten seconds per student.
Build a skills rubric for [grade level] physical education that I can score while standing in a gym.

Skill or activity: [Ex. overhand throw, dribbling under defensive pressure, forehand groundstroke].
Where I will watch it: [Ex. in a game, in a drill, at a station].

Requirements:
- Exactly four rows. No more.
- Every row is a movement I can see in ten seconds without stopping play.
- Four levels per row, in plain language a [grade] student can read.
- No row that depends on effort, attitude, or how much a student improved. Those matter, they just belong in a different tool.
- No number I would have to measure with a stopwatch or a tape.
- Write the top level as what a competent performer does, not perfection.

Give me the rubric as a table, then:
1. The two cues to teach for each row, so my teaching and my rubric use the same words.
2. A student-facing version of the same four rows.
3. The row students will score lowest on, and what to teach before I assess it.

Fit the whole thing on half a page so it survives a clipboard.

16Write assessment that is not a fitness test score

Criteria for effort, strategy, and progress, so improvement counts.
Help me build PE assessment that does not rest on a fitness test score.

Grade level: [grade]. Unit: [unit]. Length: [number] weeks.
What my grade currently rests on: [describe].
What I have to report in: [Ex. letter grades, standards-based, pass or fail].

Build an assessment plan weighted across:
- Effort and engagement, defined by what a student does rather than by how hard it looks.
- Strategy and decision making during play.
- Sportsmanship, and how a student treats teammates and opponents.
- Skill progression measured against that student's own starting point.

For each area:
1. Observable criteria at four levels, in language a student and a parent can both read.
2. How and when I collect it without stopping class.
3. A suggested weight, and your reasoning for it.

Rules:
- No criterion where a student's baseline fitness caps their grade.
- Nothing that rewards students who play a sport outside school for what they already knew.
- Nothing that depends on body size, weight, or any health measure.

Then run two students through it: one who started strong and coasted, one who started low and worked. Show what each earns, and tell me honestly whether the result looks right.

17Generate written assessments for a PE unit

Rules, strategy, and safety questions on paper, for a graded medical excuse.
Write a written assessment for a [grade level] physical education unit on [sport or activity].

What we taught: [list the rules, strategies, safety points, and fitness concepts covered].
Length: [number] questions, [number] minutes.
Reading level: [grade, or lower if needed].

Cover four areas in roughly equal measure: rules and scoring, strategy and decision making, safety and equipment, and the fitness concepts behind the activity.

Include:
1. Multiple choice for rules and terms.
2. Short scenario questions where a student explains what a player should do and why, since that is where strategy actually shows.
3. Two questions a student can only answer well by having paid attention to how the game is played.
4. An answer key with a one-line reason for each answer.
5. A version for a student on a long-term medical excuse who still needs to earn the grade, including one written task about observing and analyzing play.

Rules: no question about a student's own fitness scores or body. For the fitness-concept questions, flag any answer you are less than fully confident in and name a reputable source I can verify it against, so I check before I hand it out.

18Build self-assessment and goal-setting sheets

A target a student sets, tracks across the unit, and writes about at the end.
Build a self-assessment and goal-setting packet for a [grade level] physical education unit on [unit], running [number] weeks.

What students will be doing: [describe the activities].
How often they can record: [Ex. once a week, at the end of each class].

Give me:
1. A goal-setting page where the student picks their own target, with three or four example goals per category so they have a model: a skill goal, a strategy goal, a participation goal, and a personal-effort goal.
2. A tracking sheet they fill in themselves, short enough to finish in two minutes.
3. A mid-unit check with two questions: is this still the right goal, and what changes.
4. An end-of-unit reflection, four questions, asking about the process rather than the result.
5. A short teacher key on what a serious response looks like next to one filled in at the bell.

Rules:
- No goal about weight, body size, appearance, or any health number. Skills, strategy, effort, and habits only.
- The student writes the goal. Do not prescribe targets, rep counts, durations, or training loads.
- Everything at a reading level for [grade], one side of a page per part.

End with the one sentence I should say while handing this out, so it does not read as extra paperwork.

19Create peer-observation checklists

Three form cues students look for in each other, which teaches the cues.
Build a peer-observation checklist for [grade level] physical education.

Skill: [Ex. overhand serve, punt, lay-up, batting stance and swing].
How students will watch: [Ex. partners at a station, one watching while the other performs].

Give me:
1. Exactly three cues to look for, each visible from a few feet away and describable in a short phrase.
2. The checklist as students will see it: the cue, a yes or not-yet box, and one line for what they noticed.
3. What the observer says to their partner afterward, scripted, including one specific thing that went well and one cue to try again.
4. Two common errors per cue, so the observer knows what not-yet looks like.
5. A 60-second way to teach the three cues before students use the sheet.

Rules:
- Cues only. No scoring, no grading each other, and nothing that compares the two partners.
- Nothing about a partner's body, size, or fitness.
- Words a [grade] student would actually say out loud.

Then tell me which of the three cues students will get wrong most as observers, and how to check their observations without watching every pair.

20Write comment banks for report cards

Specific comments per level, so PE stops reading as "participates well."
Build a report card comment bank for [grade level] physical education.

What I report on: [Ex. skill development, participation and effort, game strategy, sportsmanship and cooperation, safety and procedures].
Levels I use: [Ex. exceeding, meeting, approaching, not yet].

For each area, write 20 comments per level.

Rules:
- Every comment names a specific, observable behavior. Never a personality trait, never "a pleasure to have in class," never "participates well."
- Nothing about a student's body, weight, size, athleticism, or fitness scores.
- Nothing that would embarrass a student reading it over a parent's shoulder.
- Every comment includes a concrete next step the student could act on.
- Use [NAME] as a placeholder so I can drop in a name and a pronoun.
- Two sentences maximum, and nothing I would be uncomfortable reading aloud to the family.

Group them by area, then by level, so I can find one in ten seconds.

Finish with five comments for the student who was on a long-term medical excuse and still earned a grade.
HEALTH AND FITNESS CONCEPTS

21Explain a fitness concept at student level

A student-level explanation you can check against a real source before teaching.
Explain [fitness concept, Ex. heart rate zones, progressive overload, the difference between flexibility and mobility] to [grade level] students.

Give me:
1. The explanation in under 150 words, at that grade's reading level, using no term I would then have to define.
2. One analogy that holds up if a student pushes on it, plus a note on where the analogy breaks.
3. A 30-second version I can say while students are warming up.
4. Three student questions this always produces, with the answer to each.
5. The most common wrong version of this concept that students already believe, and how to correct it without embarrassing whoever says it.
6. A one-page student handout of the same content.

Then do this last part carefully: list every factual claim you made, one per line, and mark any you are less than fully confident in. Name two reputable places I can verify this against (Ex. a national health organization or a professional physical education association), and if you are not certain a source exists as you describe it, say so instead of guessing.

Give no training advice, no target numbers for an individual student, and nothing that reads as a prescription. This is a concept for teaching, not a program.

22Build health-unit lessons on hard topics

Age-appropriate framing for sleep, stress, screen time, and nutrition basics.
Help me build health-unit lessons for [grade level] students on [topic, Ex. sleep, stress, screen time, nutrition basics].

Class length: [number] minutes. Number of lessons: [number].
What I know about this group: [Ex. a wide range of home situations, students who work evenings, a class that shuts down when a topic feels personal].

For each lesson:
1. The objective in one sentence.
2. An opener that does not ask a student to disclose anything about themselves or their family.
3. The core content at that grade's reading level, with every factual claim listed separately so I can check it.
4. An activity or discussion, with the questions written out.
5. An exit question that shows whether they got it.
6. A one-page student handout.

Rules:
- Age-appropriate framing throughout. No calorie counting, no weight talk, no body-composition content, no food labeled good or bad, no before-and-after framing.
- Nothing that would land badly on a student whose family does not control their sleep, their schedule, or their groceries.
- No individual targets or prescriptions of any kind.
- Where a topic touches disordered eating, body image, or mental health, do not write the content. Flag it, tell me to route that lesson through my school counselor first, and give me the questions to bring to that conversation.

Mark everything in these lessons a counselor should see before I teach it.

23Generate discussion prompts about sport culture

Questions about pressure, quitting, and losing well that a gym can hold.
Write discussion prompts about sport culture for [grade level] students, for use in a gym rather than a seminar room.

Context: [Ex. after a unit that got competitive, a class with several school athletes and several students who do not play at all].
Time I have: [number] minutes, [Ex. during a cool-down, or a full period].

Give me:
1. Eight questions students will genuinely disagree about, on sportsmanship, competitive pressure, quitting, what it means to lose well, and what a team owes a weaker teammate.
2. For each, the two positions a class usually splits between, so I can tell afterward whether the conversation went anywhere.
3. A follow-up for each that pushes past the answer students think I want to hear.
4. Three questions to skip if the class is not ready for them, and what makes each one risky.
5. How to run this with students sitting on a gym floor: how to keep it from turning into two loud voices, and how to include a student who will not speak in front of the group.

Rules:
- No question that requires naming a teammate, a coach, or an incident from a real game.
- No question with an obvious moral answer. If the honest answer is "it depends," that is the better question.
- Nothing that puts a student's own athletic ability on display.

Tell me which single question to use if I only get five minutes.

24Design a personal fitness plan template

A fill-in structure with your guardrails, not a program AI prescribes.
Build a personal fitness plan template for [grade level] students. A structure they fill in themselves, not a program you prescribe.

3. A weekly grid the student fills in: what, when, for how long, and how it felt.
4. A two-question reflection at the end of each week.
5. A place for my approval before they start, and the three things I check for.

Rules, and these matter:
- Do not prescribe exercises, sets, reps, loads, durations, intensities, or any target number. The student proposes, I review.
- No weight, body composition, appearance, calorie, or nutrition targets anywhere in the template.
- Include a line telling students to talk to me, the school nurse, or their doctor before adding anything new, and leave room for a family signature.
- Plain language, short enough that a student finishes the planning page in one class.

Also give me my own reviewer checklist: the four things that make me send a plan back.
MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS

25Write your gym procedures as a taught routine

Entry to exit as a routine you can post, plus a check that documents teaching it.
Turn my gym procedures into a routine I can teach and document.

26Build a safety and emergency-action plan draft

A first draft per space, written to be reviewed by your admin and trainer.

6. What I record after any incident.

Rules:
- No first aid instructions, no injury assessment, no treatment, and no return-to-play guidance of any kind. Where that belongs, write "defer to athletic trainer or nurse" and stop.
- Mark every item you are not certain complies with typical school policy, so my administrator can check it.
- Put a line at the top stating this is a draft pending review by the administrator and the athletic trainer, with a date and a signature line for each.

End with the five questions I should specifically ask them to look at.

A one-page argument for your minutes, ready for your own evidence.
Act as someone who has written budget defenses for a school program, and help me make the case for PE minutes in one page.

4. A clearly marked blank section for my own evidence from my own students, with a list of what I should collect. Ex. participation data, my own observations, student reflections, attendance in my classes.
5. The one sentence to open with, and the one specific ask to close with.

Rules: do not cite studies, statistics, or research findings. You get those wrong, and a fabricated number in front of a school board ends the conversation. Argue in plain reasoning, and mark the places where a real citation would strengthen it so I can go find one.

Keep it to one page. If it runs long, cut the general and keep the local.

30Draft the family communication you keep rewriting

Friendly versions of the uniform, shoes, and field day emails, saved for reuse.
Write the family communications I rewrite every year for [grade level] physical education. One friendly version of each, ready to save and reuse.

Write each of these as a separate message:
1. Start of year: what PE is, what to send, and what students will be doing.
2. Shoes and clothing, written so it does not read as a demand for money. Include a line about what to do if buying shoes is a problem, and leave the resource blank for me to fill in.
3. Participation expectations, including what happens on a day a student cannot fully participate.
4. Medical notes: what my school needs, from whom, and what happens while we wait.
5. Field day logistics.
6. A short one for the family whose student has not been participating, that opens a conversation instead of reporting a problem.

Rules:
- Under 200 words each, warm, at a reading level any family can use.
- Assume some families will read a translation, so keep sentences short and skip idioms.
- No jargon, no policy language, and one clear ask per message.
- Never ask a family for a diagnosis or any medical detail beyond what my school's process requires. Route medical questions to the nurse and say so in the message.

A note before you start: two cautions specific to this subject. First, never enter a student's health information, injury, or medical restriction into a tool your district has not approved. Second, AI will happily generate exercise advice, nutrition targets, and return-to-play guidance that is wrong or unsafe. Anything touching a student's body goes through your athletic trainer, school nurse, or the student's physician. Nothing below is medical advice.

What AI is bad at

It does not know that this class has three students who will turn any cooperative game into a fight, and it does not know your gym floor. It will also give authoritative-sounding advice about bodies, injuries, and nutrition that you should not act on. Use it for plans, language, and paperwork. Use humans for anything involving a student's health.
